DECHKO UZUNOV/ ISKRA BLAGOEVA. CROSSING BORDERS
28 November 2023 – 18 Fevruary 2024

“Crossing Borders” is the second project of the “Meetings Beyond Time” program of the Dechko Uzunov Art Gallery. It presents a joint exhibition of the contemporary artist Iskra Blagoeva and Dechko Uzunov. The exhibition includes a total of 6 works marking important themes in the work of the two authors. The works shown in the exhibition are the property of the Dechko Uzunov Art Gallery, the Sofia City Art Gallery and private collections. Although executed with different artistic approaches, two thematic lines stand out immediately in the themes and plots presented by the two authors, which are common to them. These are the theme of the woman in society (the maiden in Dechko Uzunov) and the theme of one’s own image, of the self-portrait. However, Iskra Blagoeva decided get involved with the exhibition even further than expected, namely to work temporarily in Dechko Uzunov’s studio. On certain days during the exhibition activities on the project, she will create a work of her own, which is going to be influenced by the encounter with the art of Uzunov, influenced by the acquaintance with one of the classic Bulgarian artists, and overcoming time limits. Surrounded by his belongings and art supplies, she will enter the holy sanctuary and work in a space conserved for decades. Visitors will be allowed to glimpse into her work process, and the created work will be presented at a separate event at the end of the exhibition.
